Franco Mastantuono Makes Historic Real Madrid Debut

Franco Mastantuono Makes Historic Real Madrid Debut

Madrid, Sep 17 (AP) — Teenage sensation Franco Mastantuono has etched his name in history as the youngest player ever to start for Real Madrid in the Champions League, as confirmed by UEFA.

At just 18 years and 33 days old, Mastantuono made his debut appearance in Madrid's initial league phase match against Marseille, held at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

With this start, the Argentine forward has toppled the previous record set just last year by Brazil's Endrick, who was 18 years and 73 days old when he started for the Spanish giants against Lille.

Before Endrick, the record was held for many years by the legendary Raúl González, who played against Ajax in 1995 at 18 years and 78 days old.

Franco Mastantuono joined Real Madrid from Argentina's River Plate on an impressive six-year contract. It's reported that the club spent a significant 45 million euros (equivalent to $53 million) on his transfer.

The young forward has already won over Madrid fans with his dazzling skills, showcasing his talent on Tuesday night and thrilling the fans at the Bernabeu.

Early in the game, he came close to scoring as a striking run ended with a shot hitting the post. Additionally, he almost found the back of the net in first-half stoppage time, but the Marseille goalkeeper made a remarkable save against his left-footed effort from within the box.

Following the missed opportunity, Mastantuono expressed his frustration by bending over and holding his face in his hands.

Ultimately, he left the pitch in the 63rd minute, substituted by Brahim Díaz, but not before receiving a warm ovation from the appreciative Madrid supporters.
