Yashasvi Jaiswal: Indian opener achieves unique feat with hundred on Test debut | IND vs WI

Yashasvi Jaiswal has etched his name in Indian cricket history, becoming the first-ever Indian opener to score a Test hundred on debut, away from home.

In his first outing for the national side, the 21-year-old justified his selection with a score of 143* at stumps on day 2, showcasing exactly why he belongs at this level.

The Mumbai cricketer had faced 350 balls at the end of day 2, the most by an Indian in an innings on Test debut.

Jaiswal's century on Test debut places him in an elite group of Indian players, as he is now the 17th Indian cricketer to hit a century on debut. While Shikhar Dhawan & Prithvi Shaw too did it as openers, their hundreds came in Indian conditions, unlike Jaiswal.

He is now one of only five Indian players who have achieved the remarkable feat of scoring a hundred on Test debut overseas. The list of players who accomplished this includes Abbas Ali Baig against England in 1959, Surinder Amarnath in Auckland in 1976, Pravin Amre against South Africa in Durban in 1992, Sourav Ganguly at Lord's against England in 1996, and Virender Sehwag in Bloemfontein against South Africa in 2001.

With this incredible milestone, Jaiswal also joined the ranks of the youngest Indian players to score a century in their debut Test matches. At the age of 21 years and 196 days, he became the fourth youngest Indian to achieve this feat after Prithvi Shaw, Abbas Ali Baig and Gundappa Viswanath.
