Wrestlers vs WFI: Sports Ministry dissolves Wrestling Federation, asks IOA to take over

With the Wrestlers vs Federation fight raging again, the Union Sports Ministry has scrapped the upcoming May 7 elections of the Wrestling Federation of India.

Earlier in the day, the protesting wrestlers had moved Supreme Court, seeking an FIR against WFI's former chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.

And now the Ministry in its announcement requested the Indian Olympic Association to form a neutral ad-hoc committee that will conduct fresh elections within 45 days of its formation.

This means the Wrestling Federation of India has been dissolved and the IOA's transitory committee will take over the day-to-day functioning of the federation till the time elections are held.

The Ministry also confirmed that the findings of the oversight committee are currently under examination, but noted that there's an absence of an internal complaints committee under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act.

While the full findings of the report have not been made public, the Ministry confirmed there's a need for more transparency & communication between the Federation & the wrestlers.
