Virat Kohli surpasses Tendulkar: Fastest to 14,000 ODI runs

Virat Kohli, the star batter of the Indian cricket team, has surpassed a remarkable milestone previously set by Sachin Tendulkar. During the Champions Trophy 2025 match against Pakistan in Dubai, Kohli became the fastest batter to score 14,000 runs in ODI cricket, achieving the feat in just 287 innings.

Sachin held the previous record, reaching the 14,000 mark in 350 innings. Kumar Sangakkara of Sri Lanka is the only other player to have crossed this mark, taking 378 innings to do so. Kohli stands out as the first to reach this milestone in under 300 innings.

Starting his innings needing only 15 runs to reach the milestone, Kohli achieved it with flair, hitting a boundary off Haris Rauf. He went on to score his 51st ODI century in 111 deliveries.

India secured a dominant victory over Pakistan by six wickets, bolstering their chances of reaching the semifinals. Pakistan was bundled out for 241, with Saud Shakeel scoring 62 off 76 balls and captain Mohammad Rizwan contributing a slow 46 from 77 deliveries. India’s Kuldeep Yadav took 3/40, and Hardik Pandya chipped in with crucial wickets, dismissing Babar Azam and Shakeel.

In reply, India chased down the target in 42.3 overs, thanks to Kohli’s unbeaten century. Shubman Gill added 46 off 52, and Shreyas Iyer contributed 56 off 67. Skipper Rohit Sharma played a brief but explosive knock of 20 off 15 before being dismissed by Shaheen Afridi.

With this win, India stands on the brink of the semifinals with two wins in two games, whereas Pakistan faces potential elimination after losing their first two group matches.
