Veer Ahlawat Shines with T-33 Finish at European Masters

Crans Montana, Switzerland, September 1 (PTI) — Veer Ahlawat of India concluded the week with a dynamic final round of 2-under 68, securing a Tied-33rd finish at the European Masters. Ahlawat, who continues to establish his presence on the DP World Tour, completed with rounds of 69-64-70-68, culminating in a 9-under total.

This marks the fourth consecutive cut made by Ahlawat. During these four outings, his best finish has been a T-25 at the Nexo Championship, with two other finishes in the 30s. Currently ranked 129th in the standings, Ahlawat is eyeing additional strong finishes to retain his DP World Tour status. Over the course of the season, he has made 11 cuts in 18 starts, with a T-13 at the Austrian Alpine and a T-17 at the Hero Indian Open being his standout performances.

Meanwhile, fellow Indian golfer Shubhankar Sharma has been facing difficulties, having missed the cut this week. This marks his 13th consecutive missed cut, placing him 201st in the Race to Dubai standings.

South African Thriston Lawrence emerged as a two-time winner of the tournament, overcoming a challenging start to deliver a final round of 66, securing a two-shot victory. Starting the day with a one-shot lead, Lawrence faced a tough bogey-bogey-bogey beginning, relinquishing his lead and falling two shots behind. However, the 28-year-old boldly tackled the par-four sixth hole, resulting in an eagle. He continued his charge with five birdies over the next eight holes, establishing a three-shot lead.

Despite a precarious approach at the 15th, which flirted with the penalty area, Lawrence managed to save par. He safely finished with pars to end at 22-under par, claiming his fifth DP World Tour title and second victory at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, following his 2022 triumph.

Matt Wallace finished in a tie for second place at 20 under, alongside Rasmus Hojgaard and Sami Valimaki, while Matt Fitzpatrick concluded the tournament one stroke behind them.
