New Delhi Tigers Dominate Strikers in DPL Clash

New Delhi, Aug 19 (PTI) — The New Delhi Tigers showcased a masterful all-round performance, securing an emphatic 8-wicket triumph over the North Delhi Strikers in the Delhi Premier League (DPL).

The Strikers, batting first, found themselves in deep trouble from the onset as they lost wickets rapidly and were reduced to 54/6 within 12 overs.

Nevertheless, a resilient 58-run partnership for the seventh wicket between Vaibhav Kandpal and Arjun Rapria injected some life into their innings. Rapria played a steady hand, scoring 29 from 24 balls, while Kandpal contributed a spirited 45 off 32 deliveries. Despite these efforts, they managed only to bring the team to a total of 124/9 over their allotted 20 overs.

Yashjeet was the standout bowler for the Tigers, delivering a phenomenal spell with figures of 4/15 in his four overs, while Pankaj Jaswal (2/28) and Pradyuman Sanan (2/22) provided strong support, maintaining pressure from both ends.

Chasing a target of 125, the Tigers endured a rough start with Shivam Gupta falling to the first delivery of the innings bowled by Strikers' skipper Harshit Rana.

However, the team's captain, Himmat Singh, along with Lakshay Thareja, swiftly took control, forming a pivotal 78-run partnership for the second wicket. Himmat played a captain’s innings, scoring a rapid 46 from 25 balls, showcasing his batting prowess with an array of elegant strokes.

Upon Himmat's departure, Lakshay Thareja, who remained unbeaten on 42 off 31 balls, alongside Vaibhav Rawal, who added an unbeaten 27 off 22 balls, steered the Tigers to victory. Their unbroken 47-run partnership effectively sealed the game, underscoring the Tigers’ dominance.

Brief Scores: North Delhi Strikers: 124/9 in 20 overs (Vaibhav Kandpal 45, Arjun Rapria 29; Yashjeet 4/15, Pankaj Jaswal 2/28, Pradyuman Sanan 2/22) New Delhi Tigers: 125/2 in 17.3 overs (Himmat Singh 46, Lakshay Thareja 42 not out, Vaibhav Rawal 27 not out; Harshit Rana 1/25).
