Sahith Theegala Opens with 3-Under 68 at Baycurrent Classic

Yokohama (Japan), Oct 9 (PTI): Golfer Sahith Theegala delivered a solid 3-under 68 in the opening round of the Baycurrent Classic on the PGA Tour, despite facing a double bogey challenge. This Fall season event marked his return after navigating a season riddled with a neck injury. Theegala’s impressive 68 positioned him within the top five, suggesting he is on the path to recovery.

Competing under challenging conditions, Theegala combined five birdies with a single double bogey. The Indian-origin American golfer commenced his round on the back nine. He secured birdies on the 13th and 17th holes before encountering a three-putt double bogey on the 18th, his ninth hole, finishing the front nine at even par. His back nine included birdies on the fourth, sixth, and ninth holes, concluding his day at 3-under 68 at the Yokohama Country Club, a new venue for the tournament this year.

Meanwhile, Max Greyserman carded an impressive 67 to seize an early shared lead. In anticipation of a possible typhoon, tee times had been adjusted earlier. Greyserman was three under par at the turn, then nailed a 40-foot birdie on the 11th for a brief lead. Despite a bogey on the 12th, he rebounded with a 19-foot birdie on the 15th, sealing his score at four under, tied with Bud Cauley and Brian Campbell.

Cauley showcased a flawless round, whereas Campbell experienced a mix of outcomes. Starting from the tenth, Campbell struggled with three bogeys in his initial five holes but rallied back with three birdies and a remarkable eagle two in the final six holes of his adventurous round.
