British Tennis Player Tara Moore Suspended for Doping

London, Jul 16 (AP) — British tennis player Tara Moore has been handed a four-year suspension following a court ruling in favor of the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), which accused her of using performance-enhancing drugs.

Moore initially tested positive for the anabolic steroids boldenone and nandrolone in April 2022. However, she was exonerated in December 2023 after an independent tribunal attributed the positive drug test to her consumption of contaminated meat while competing in Colombia.

The ITIA challenged that decision, specifically addressing the findings related to nandrolone. The Court of Arbitration for Sport sided with the ITIA, concluding that the evidence Moore presented did not convincingly demonstrate that her positive test was due to the ingestion of contaminated meat.

“For the ITIA, every case is considered according to the individual facts and circumstances," stated ITIA CEO, Karen Moorhouse.

“Our bar for appealing a first instance decision is high, and the decision is not taken lightly. In this case, our independent scientific advice was that the player did not adequately explain the high level of nandrolone present in their sample. Today's ruling is consistent with this position."

The 32-year-old Moore, who is currently ranked No. 864 in singles and 187 in doubles, has mostly participated in lower-tier WTA Tour events following her provisional suspension after the initial positive test. The ruling on Tuesday specified that the time already served would be credited toward her four-year suspension period.
