Jannik Sinner Dominates Bublik to Reach US Open Quarterfinals

Jannik Sinner showcased dominance at the US Open, defeating Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, advancing to the quarterfinals. He maintains a 25-match Grand Slam hard-court winning streak and will face Lorenzo Musetti next. Bublik's 13 double faults aided his defeat.

Jannik Sinner Dominates Bublik to Reach US Open Quarterfinals

New York, Sep 2 (AP) Jannik Sinner displayed exceptional form in the US Open as he routed Alexander Bublik 6-1, 6-1, 6-1, reclaiming his position in the tournament's quarterfinals on Monday night. This triumph was particularly notable as Bublik is the only player apart from Carlos Alcaraz to have defeated Sinner this season.

The top-seeded Sinner completed his victory in just 1 hour and 21 minutes, marking it as the second-shortest match in this year's tournament, surpassed only by Tomas Machac's first-round win by a minute. The match was not only a revenge for Sinner's previous loss to Bublik but also a testament to his dominance on hard courts.

Sinner had previously lost to Bublik on the grass courts in Halle, Germany, in June, a preparatory tournament for Wimbledon. However, his hard-court prowess, as the reigning U.S. Open champion, proved unmatched on this occasion.

With this victory, Sinner extended his streak to 25 consecutive Grand Slam victories on hard courts, adding this to his achievements of two Australian Open titles and his U.S. Open triumph last year. Moving forward, Sinner is set to compete against fellow Italian Lorenzo Musetti, the No. 10 seed, in the upcoming Wednesday quarterfinals.

The other quarterfinal on that day will see No. 8 Alex de Minaur face off against No. 25 Felix Auger-Aliassime. Bublik, the No. 23 seed from Kazakhstan, came into the match as one of the most in-form players, with 11 consecutive victories on the ATP Tour and three titles, a record only bettered by Alcaraz's six titles.

Remarkably, Bublik had maintained 55 uninterrupted service game victories prior to this match, but Sinner broke his serve eight times. Despite Bublik's resolve, which included moments of light-heartedness at the net post-match, his performance was overshadowed by Sinner's overwhelming dominance with an 86-46 point advantage. Bublik's 13 double-faults also contributed to his defeat.

With this win, Sinner improved his record this year to 35-4, with losses only to Alcaraz at the French Open final, and in Rome and Cincinnati, where Sinner was unable to continue due to illness. AP KHS KHS.
