RCB Cares: New Initiative for Crowd Management and Fan Safety

RCB's 'RCB Cares' initiative focuses on crowd safety and fan welfare. It follows a tragic incident and includes proposed safety audits, annual training, and collaborations with sports organizations. Compensation for victims' families and improved protocols are prioritized.

RCB Cares: New Initiative for Crowd Management and Fan Safety

Bengaluru, Sep 1 (PTI) - The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have unveiled an extensive plan under their initiative, 'RCB Cares', outlining efforts to improve crowd management following a tragic stampede earlier this year, where 11 individuals lost their lives during the team's trophy celebrations.

The foundation is committed to working alongside the IPL and the Karnataka State Cricket Association to design more effective crowd management protocols. As part of their immediate response, RCB had previously announced a compensation of Rs 25 lakh for the families of the victims affected by the incident.

RCB Cares aims to “support, empower, and elevate our 12th Man Army through meaningful action.” The foundation has introduced a six-point strategy to fulfill these objectives, contingent upon obtaining the necessary government approvals.

The proposed agenda includes initiatives such as offering support beyond monetary compensation and collaborating closely with stadium authorities, sports organizations, and league partners to develop improved crowd management systems.

The franchise is advocating for the implementation of a "fan-safety audit framework" and plans to provide annual training to on-ground partners in crowd management and emergency response techniques.

Additionally, the team aims to “empower communities with real opportunities” and is set to invest in independent research focusing on crowd safety. RCB Cares also seeks to “elevate fan memory” by creating lasting tributes and intends to foster local talent by creating in-stadia job opportunities.

According to the franchise, 'RCB Cares' represents a long-term commitment to fan welfare.

An inquiry conducted after the unfortunate June incident held RCB accountable for the massive turnout, which reportedly reached into the lakhs due to invitations circulated via social media by the team. It was determined that the franchise had failed to obtain the necessary permissions for the event, leaving police forces overwhelmed by the crowd vying to enter the Chinnaswamy Stadium.
