Punjab FC Strengthens Defense with Bijoy Varghese Signing

Mohali, Jul 15 (PTI) — Punjab FC has made a significant acquisition for the upcoming Indian Super League season by signing defender Bijoy Varghese from Inter Kashi.

The 25-year-old centre-back has agreed to a contract that will keep him with the Shers until 2028.

Bijoy's career took off when he joined Kerala Blasters in the 2021-22 season, playing a key role in helping the team finish as runners-up. Afterward, he gained valuable experience with I-League's Inter Kashi on loan for the 2023-24 season and made his mark with 10 appearances during the 2024-25 season.

"I'm truly excited to join Punjab FC and I am eager to embrace this new chapter in my career," Bijoy expressed. "The competition for defensive spots at the club is strong, which will undoubtedly contribute to my growth and motivate me to perform at my best every day."

Born in Pulluvila, a coastal village in Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram, Bijoy developed a passion for football influenced by his three older brothers, who were players themselves. He began his youth training at Kovalam FC before moving on to the Sports Authority of India. Representing Kerala at various youth levels, Bijoy was part of the champion team at the Khelo India Youth Games in 2019, which ultimately led to his signing with Kerala Blasters.
