Pratika Rawal and England Team Penalized After ODI in Southampton

Dubai, July 18 (PTI) - Indian cricketer Pratika Rawal, along with the England women's cricket team, faced penalties for breaches of the ICC Code of Conduct following the conclusion of the first ODI in the three-match series held in Southampton.

Rawal was fined 10% of her match fee and received a demerit point for committing a Level 1 offense involving two separate incidents. The Indian batter was found guilty of making "avoidable physical contact" with England bowler Lauren Filer during the 18th over and again with Sophie Ecclestone in the following over.

"The Indian opener was penalized for two separate incidents that occurred within a short time frame," the ICC stated on their website. “In the 18th over, she made avoidable physical contact with bowler Lauren Filer while taking a single, and after being dismissed in the next over, she made similar avoidable contact with bowler Sophie Ecclestone on her way back to the dressing room,” it further explained.

This is Rawal's first offense in a 24-month period, resulting in the addition of one demerit point to her record.

In the match, India emerged victorious, winning the opening ODI by four wickets and taking a 1-0 lead in the series, having already clinched the five-match T20I series.

The ICC also fined the England team 5% of their match fee for slow over-rate, as they were adjudged to be one over short of the required rate after time allowances were accounted for. "Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 5% of their match fee for each over their team fails to bowl within the allotted time," the ICC noted.

Both Pratika Rawal and England's captain, Nat Sciver-Brunt, accepted their respective sanctions imposed by match referee Sarah Bartlett, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.
