India bowling coach Paras Mhambrey said the tough decision to leave out the world's number one ranked bowler Ravichandran Ashwin from the World Test Championship final was based purely on conditions.

"It is always a very difficult decision to drop a champion bowler like him. Looking at the conditions in the morning we thought an additional seamer would be beneficial.

You can always look back and say that additional spinner would have been beneficial but we took the call looking at the conditions," said Mhambrey, after Australia reached 327 for three on day one after being put in to bat.
Asked what kind of communications take place with the player who is not included in the eleven, he said: "When team discussion happens, we talk about composition over a period of days. We trained here for three four days before the game and seeing the wicket, conversations happen with players.
"The players also understand that (the importance of team combination)." The bowling coach said India can surely bounce back in the game.
"The second new ball did a bit. The morning session will be important. The wicket played better than our expectations in the last two sessions today,&rdquo; he said. Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed the Team's decision to drop Ashwin out of the Playing XI. While Gavaskar said, 'You are playing WTC final and you don't play the no. 1 test bowler, this decision is beyond my understanding. Mahmbrey further informed that Umesh Yadav who bowled only 14 overs in the day had no fitness issues. He also felt bowlers could have done better.
"We could have been more disciplined. After 12-13 overs, we lacked discipline. I felt we conceded more runs that we would have preferred," Mhambrey said adding that they could have employed the short ball tactics earlier than they did.&nbsp;

Father of the minor wrestler, who accused former Wrestling Federation of India chief BrijBhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment, made a contrasting statement on Wednesday.
In a&nbsp; chat with News18 and India Today, the father of a 17-year-old wrestler said that they had levelled allegations of sexual assault in a state of anger after WFI discriminated against his daughter.
'We have changed my statement under Section 164 before a magistrate on June 5. I was alone in this fight as nobody helped me at that time, except the wrestlers&rsquo; fraternity. My family has been living in trauma since the matter was reported. On June 5, we clarified in the Supreme Court that there was no sexual assault by the WFI chief. But, there are allegations of discrimination against WFI,' he added.
Her father also clarified that they changed their statement without any greed, pressure, or fear. 'It is absolutely correct that my daughter is a minor. We have not withdrawn the case, just changed the statement,' he concluded.

However, the wrestlers want some more time to get ready for the trials.
"We want to take part in the selection trial but to prepare for it, we need at least a month and a half of training," international wrestler Satyawart Kadian, who is also Sakshi Malik's husband, told PTI.
Getting back into competition mode will be a tough task for the wrestlers. Some haven't competed since the World Championships in September last year, while others last hit the mat even earlier, during the Commonwealth Games in August 2022.
Asian Games are set to take place in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.

It was Smith's 9th hundred from 36 innings vs India and he went past Ricky Ponting's record of scoring the most number of tons in whites vs the suncontinental giants.
Moreover, he also went past Virat Kohli&nbsp;in the list of most hundreds in Test matches between India and Australia. Sachin Tendulkar, with 11 hundreds and 16 fifties from 39 Tests, tops the list.
In the process, Smith also went past 2000 Test runs vs India.
