"It’s a normalised environment for us and, not dissimilar to cricket, there will potentially be players that will compete with COVID.” said Tiley in an interview.

Players could play Australian Open despite Covid-19: Tournament director

While the 2021 Australian Open took place inside a bio bubble, the 2023 edition would allow the players to play even if they had the virus according to tournament director Craig Tiley.

“We just wanted to follow what’s currently in the community,” Tiley told reporters at Melbourne Park.

“We have gone a step further by making a recommendation around staying away when you’re ill, and that our medical staff will continue to monitor that, with the players individually as well. It’s a normalised environment for us and, not dissimilar to the cricket, there will potentially be players that will compete with COVID.” he further added.
