'No vaccine, no play': Novak Djokovic's Australian Open defence in doubt

World No. 1 Novak Djokovic might have to stay at home during the Australian Open, if the Serbian ace does not reveal his vaccine status.

Tournament chief Craig Tiley on Saturday reiterated that Djokovic and all other players participating in the Grand Slam will have to present their vaccination certificates for taking part in the event. In Australia, the 20-time Grand Slam champion will look to surpass Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal who also have won equal number of Grand Slams.

The 34-year-old Tennis star has constantly said that disclosing the vaccination status or getting jabbed is his choice and in reply, Tiley said that while they would love to have him at Melbourne Park, Djokovic will need to get vaccinated.

Although earlier, PM Scott Morrison said that unvaccinated players would be allowed to play after they undergo mandatory 14-day quarantine, the Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews made it clear that for the event each person on site will need to get vaccinated.
