The DC franchise broke the bank for Australian all-rounder Annabel Sutherland and picked the star player for INR 2 crore. Delhi Capitals engaged in an intense bidding war with Mumbai Indians (MI) but managed to get the player after MI withdrew from the contest.
With only 25 lakhs left in the purse, the franchise then went for two uncapped players Aparna Mondal and Ashwani Kumari to complete their squad.

Justice (retd) MM Kumar, the returning officer, clarified that the entire electoral process, including polling, vote counting, and result declaration, will be conducted in one day. However, the outcome of these elections remains contingent on the decision of a writ petition pending in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The WFI elections, which will take place during a Special General Body Meeting, will follow the electoral list prepared on August 7. This announcement dispels concerns that the electoral process might restart from scratch. As per the statement, all necessary steps had been completed by August 7, except for the actual polling, counting, and result declaration.
The elections were initially postponed due to a stay order by the Punjab and Haryana High Court just before the scheduled polling date on August 12, 2023. However, the Supreme Court recently lifted the stay, allowing the elections to proceed on December 21, 2023.
Following several delays and interruptions, including suspension by United World Wrestling for not holding timely elections, the WFI elections are now moving forward. The International Olympic Committee (IOC)-constituted ad-hoc committee, led by Bhupender Singh Bajwa, has been overseeing the WFI's operations since the sports ministry suspended the federation. The suspension came after allegations of sexual harassment against then-president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, leading to prolonged protests by wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik.

A young Indian outfit will be asked tough questions, answers to which might not be readily available when it faces a sturdy South African side in a three-match T20 International starting here on Sunday.
With injured skipper Hardik Pandya out till the start of IPL, lead pacer Jasprit Bumrah taking a break and not much clarity over Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's T20 future ahead of the World Cup in June, one wouldn't be able to read much into either success or failure of the team in South Africa.
A clearer picture of India's core for the T20 showpiece would only emerge after a month of cash-rich IPL, with form and fitness at that point being the criteria for selection.
If Rohit and Virat are picked in the playing XI, the core will suddenly become very different from the team that is now touring 'Rainbow Nation'.
Suryakumar Yadav led side beat Australia 4-1 on fabulous batting tracks at home but even the most partisan Indian fan would agree that there was so much less at stake in a series that was held within 72 hours of the World Cup.
Australia's core bowling attack was rested and some of the seniors were so tired that they left for home after the third game, having spent almost nine weeks in India.
The South Africa series in that context is the last big international T20 series that India play followed by one against Afghanistan in mid-January.
Even with their pace bowling mainstays, Kagiso Rabada (rested) and Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi injured, the Proteas at home will be more than a handful.
Batting Combination conundrum
India are carrying 17 players for the T20 series and only three of them -- Shreyas Iyer, Mukesh Kumar and Ishan Kishan are also part of the 50-over format.
There will be multiple bone of contention, the openers and No. 3, who will have to shed their archaic safety-first approach that had been India's bane in previous T20 World Cups.
Yashasvi Jaiswal has already shown that he belongs to this level and Shubman Gill is now one of the first picks across formats while Ruturaj Gaikwad after his 52-ball-100 will be that much difficult to ignore.
And herein lies the problem as Ishan Kishan isn't a great option beyond No. 4 if the troika of Jaiswal, Gill and Gaikwad bat. And at No. 4 is India's No. 1 T20 batter and skipper Suryakumar Yadav, who is the only automatic choice as far as the T20 World Cup is concerned.
Then there is the wicketkeeper's slot where Kishan will have a stiff fight from Jitesh Sharma, who is evolving nicely as a finisher at No. 6.
There is a No. 5 slot where Shreyas, who is not exactly a slam-bang from the word "go" but an IPL skipper, is expected to be challenged with short-pitched stuff by the likes of Marco Jansen, Gerald Coetzee and Andile Phehlukwayo.
But if one plays Iyer, then there would be no place for Rinku Singh, another designated finisher, who himself said on BCCI.TV, that he will be batting at No.5.
In case Kishan doesn't find a place in the top four, then Jitesh is the option at No. 6.
For the likes of Ruturaj, Jaiswal, Rinku and Jitesh, the extra bounce on offer at Kingsmead will pose a different sort of challenge as those with superior back-foot play will be paramount.
Bowling picks are easier&nbsp;
The Indian bowling attack was put to the sword by Australia in most games but in South Africa, the length would be doubly important as the younger crop might find it enticing to dig it in due to the extra bounce.
While there won't be Quinton de Kock in the mix anymore, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, skipper Aiden Markram, hard-hitting Tristan Stubbs and new batting sensation Matthew Breetzske could make life difficult for Indian bowlers.
While Ravindra Jadeja is the vice-captain in this series and is expected to bat at No.7, Axar Patel, who hasn't been picked for the series, will certainly be around when squad for the marquee event is selected.
The second spinner will certainly be googly specialist Ravi Bishnoi, who is now the world's No. 1 ranked T20 spinner.
Deepak Chahar, Arshdeep Singh and Mukesh Kumar are expected to be the three straight-forward pace bowling choices.

His brilliant show fetched him the Player of the Match award. Chasing a target of 137, the Kiwis were struggling at 69/6 but Phillips and Santner's brilliant stand saw the visitors beat Bangladesh by 4 wickets to level the series.
Ajaz Patel also took the limelight in Bangaldesh&rsquo;s second innings, bagging a 6-wicket haul. Mitchell Santner, meanwhile, took 3 to bowl the hosts out for 144.
Having won the toss, Bangladesh were dismissed for 172 in the first innings, while New Zealand managed to eke out an 8-run lead, all thanks to Phillips' 87. Eventually, the New Zealanders managed to tie the series, having lost the first Test by 150 runs.

The U.S. Soccer Federation and Mexico Football Federation submitted a joint bid on Friday to host the 2027 Women&rsquo;s World Cup projecting $3 billion in revenue, competing against a proposal from Brazil and a joint Germany-Netherlands-Belgium plan.
The anticipated revenue in North America would be a huge increase from this year's tournament in Australia and New Zealand, which FIFA said totaled more than $570 million. The U.S.-Mexico bid projects attendance at 4.5 million, and Brazil's bid estimated competition revenue at $99 million, a figure that did not include broadcast money. The European bid said it had &ldquo;a target revenue well above what the FIFA Women&rsquo;s World Cup has reached before." The US-Mexico bid book proposed U.S. sites from among the same 11 to be used in the 2026 men's World Cup, according to the document released by FIFA: Arlington, Texas; Atlanta; East Rutherford, New Jersey; Foxborough, Massachusetts; Houston; Inglewood, California; Kansas City, Missouri; Miami Gardens, Florida; Philadelphia; Santa Clara, California; and Seattle. The bid said other cities could be considered.
Mexico listed Guadalajara, Mexico City and Monterrey &mdash; its three sites for the men's World Cup &mdash; and in addition for 2027 listed as possibilities Leon and Quer&eacute;taro.
The US-Mexico bid envisioned taking advantage of efficiencies from the 2026 men&rsquo;s tournament, which will be co-hosted by the U.S., Mexico and Canada.
&ldquo;The U.S. and Mexico are in a unique position to host a World Cup that will leverage the same venues, infrastructure, and protocols used for the Men&rsquo;s World Cup just a year prior,&rdquo; U.S. Soccer President Cindy Parlow Cone said in the statement.
"As a result, we believe the time is right to host a FIFA Women&rsquo;s World Cup that features a truly world-class experience for players and fans, alike. This will not only unlock the economic potential of women&rsquo;s soccer, it will send a message to young players around the world that there is no limit to what they can achieve.&rdquo; The European bid listed Brussels, Charleroi, Genk and Ghent in Belgium; Cologne, Dortmund, D&uuml;sseldorf and Gelsenkirchen in Germany; and Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Enschede, Heerenveen and Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
Germany&rsquo;s three largest cities were not included: Berlin, Hamburg and Munich.
The Europe bid suggested ticket prices of 20-70 euros ($21-75) for group stage matches, rising to 50-125 euros ($53-133) for the final, with discounts for children and early purchases. It estimated hospitality seat prices of $160-$640.
Brazil proposed stadiums in Belo Horizonte, Bras&iacute;lia, Cuiab&aacute;, Fortaleza, Manaus, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and S&atilde;o Paulo. They were among the 12 sites used for the 2014 men&rsquo;s World Cup, with Curitiba and Natal dropped.
The Brazil bid estimated ticket prices of $17-52 for group stage matches and $37-84 for the final, with total ticket revenue of $57.4 million. It projected hospitality revenue at $29.5 million.
The U.S.-Mexico bid did not list specific ticket prices.
The U.S. hosted the Women&rsquo;s World Cup in 1999 and 2003. The 1999 tournament, won by the United States, drew 1.2 million fans, an average of almost 38,000 for the 32 matches at eight stadiums across the nation.
The 2003 tournament, originally scheduled for China, was moved to the U.S. on four months&rsquo; notice because of the SARS virus and was played in six smaller venues. There were 15 doubleheaders and the tournament, won by Germany, drew about 680,000 for an average of just over 21,000.
FIFA set a Friday deadline to submit bids. South Africa also announced a bid in September, then withdrew it last month.
FIFA is to inspect proposed sites in February and the FIFA Congress is to vote on a host in May.

India's abysmal batting prompted skipper Harmanpreet Kaur to acknowledge the team's failure in "reading the ball well" during the second women's T20I in Mumbai on Saturday.
Sent in to bat, India were bowled out for mere 80 runs. This was their third lowest total in a women's T20I as India conceded the three-match series after losing back-to-back matches.
"We always want to play with a positive approach, but unfortunately some of us didn't read the ball well and they also bowled really well and didn't allow us to score freely," Harmanpreet said during the post-match presentation ceremony.
Indian batting looked clueless as they went with all-out approach, something that backfired in Amol Mazumdar's first assignment as coach.
Defending the paltry total, India had their moments when Deepti Sharma took two wickets in two balls to have them 73 for 6 but without any scoreboard pressure England cantered home with four wickets and 52 balls remaining.
Harmanpreet said they fell short by 30-40 runs.
"Another 30-40 runs could have made a huge difference. Proud of my team, we fought till the last run which is good to see."
"After losing early wickets, we were thinking 120, but couldn't do it. But still, our bowlers were ready to take up the challenge and bowled the way we wanted," she added.

England defeated India by four wickets in the second T20I to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in three-game series in Mumbai on Saturday.
Opting to bowl, Charlotte Dean (2/16), Lauren Bell (2/18), Sarah Glenn (2/13) and Sophie Ecclestone (2/13) took two wickets each as England produced a disciplined bowling effort to bundle out India for 80 runs in 16.2 overs.
In reply, England overhauled the target, scoring 82 for six in 11.2 overs.
Defending the total, Renuka Singh (2/26) struck twice in the same over to leave England at 19 for 2 in 3 overs but Alice Capsey (25) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (16) kept them in the hunt.
Spinner Deepti Sharma removed Amy Jones (5) and Freya Kemp (0) in successive deliveries but it was too late in the end.
Apart from Renuka, Deepti (2/4), Saika Ishaque (1/21) and Pooja Vastrakar (1/7) were the other wicket-takers for India.
For India, Jemimah Rodrigues (30) was the top-scorer, while Smriti Mandhana (10) was the only other batter to reach double figures.
