In a historic first, Vaishali, Praggnanandhaa become only sibling duo to be Grandmasters simultaneously

Vaishali Rameshbabu achieved a historic milestone on Saturday, becoming India's third female Grandmaster by surpassing a remarkable 2500 rating during the 2023 IV Llobregat Open.

This accomplishment also cements the Rameshbabu siblings, with her younger brother Praggnanandhaa, as the first-ever Grandmaster pair of siblings in the history of chess.

While Praggnanandhaa's rapid ascent to become the second-youngest Grandmaster in 2018 captured much attention, Vaishali's own stellar achievements have now come to the forefront.

At 22 years old, she has emerged from the shadows, adding another layer to the family's chess legacy.

Vaishali's journey includes attaining the titles of Woman International Master at 15, Woman Grandmaster at 17, and International Master at 20.

Vaishali joins an exclusive club, being only the third female Indian Grandmaster, following in the footsteps of Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli. Her accomplishment marks India's first female Grandmaster in 12 years, after Dronavalli achieved the title in 2011.

The momentous occasion occurred during the 2023 IV Llobregat Open on December 2, where Vaishali's exceptional skills and determination shone brightly.
