While talking to Times of India, Thakur said that if India can host the G20 Presidency in such a big way then the government along with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is ready to positively bid for the 2036 Olympics.

Sports minister Anurag Thakur has said that India is seriously considering bidding for the 2036 Olympics.

While talking to Times of India, Thakur said that if India can host the G20 Presidency in such a big way then the government along with Indian Olympic Association (IOA) is ready to positively bid for the 2036 Olympics.

Paris, Los Angeles, and Brisbane are set to host the next three Olympic Games in 2024, 2028 and 2032 respectively.

The minister also stated that the government could present the roadmap for hosting the Summer Games during the IOC Session in September 2023.

Earlier, the IOC said that it was in preliminary discussions with 10 cities but has not revealed a timeframe for when it plans to award the 2036 edition.

Indonesia, South Korea and Qatar will be potential rivals for India if they choose to bid for the 2036 Olympics.

Among the big-ticket events, India had previously, hosted the 1982 Asian Games and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
