French Open director issues apology for saying men's tennis is more appealing than women's

French Open's first female tournament director, Amelie Mauresmo had said that nine of the 10-night sessions at Roland Garros involved men's matches because women's tennis currently has less appeal

French Open director and two-time grand slam champion Amelie Mauresmo issued an apology over her statement comparing the scheduling of women's and men's matches in the ongoing clay-court grand slam.

Earlier, Mauresmo said that women's matches were less appealing than men's.

In her latest statement, the two-time grand slam champion clarified that it is really tough to schedule a woman's match at night because the organisers have to take into consideration the length of the match and it is the fair thing to do for the ticketholders.

She further added that her earlier statement was taken out of context.

Notably, nine out of the 10 matches scheduled in the night session have been men's matches in the 2022 French Open.
