Aditi Gopichand Swami: 16-year-old breaks Archery world record

16-year-old Aditi Gopichand Swami made waves at the third stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup in Medellin, Colombia.

Swami's remarkable performance not only secured her the top position but also saw her smashing the under-18 world record in the compound women's category.

Swami showcased her exceptional skills by amassing an impressive total of 711 points in the 72-arrow 50-meter qualification round. Her flawless performance included a perfect score of 60, leaving her competitors in awe.

Notably, she surpassed the previous world record of 705, which was set just last month by Liko Arreola, a debutant for the US senior team.

In a post-match interview, an elated Swami expressed her joy and disbelief at her extraordinary feat, stating, "I feel amazing and I am very happy. I didn’t expect that I was going to shoot like that and that score, but now I’m very happy with that score because I’m only 16 years old.”

The Indian archery contingent demonstrated remarkable strength throughout the competition, with three of the top six women hailing from their ranks.

Swami's compatriot, Jyothi Surekha Vennam, secured the second position, further cementing India's dominance in the event. Notably, home favorite Sara Lopez was also part of the top contenders, highlighting the level of competition in the tournament.
