IND VS SL: Rohit Sharma appointed Test captain, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane dropped

Rohit Sharma replaces Virat Kohli as the new Test captain of Team India, confirmed the Indian cricket Board on Saturday. While Virat Kohli stepped down from the captaincy duties after India's embarrassing loss in the South Africa Test series, Rohit Sharma's tenure will kickstart with the upcoming 2 match Test series against Sri Lanka which is set to begin from 4th March.

BCCI also announced the squad for the Test series which will take place in India itself. The board has dropped the veteran batting duo of Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane whose performances have been under scrutiny for the past couple of years. Earlier, BCCI had asked both the players to play in Ranji Trophy this season.

Assisting Rohit Sharma, BCCI has named Jasprit Bumrah as the Test and T20I vice-captain for the Sri Lanka series. Ravindra Jadeja who has recovered from the injury has also been named in the 18 member squad.
