Shillong, Aug 20: Karate enthusiasts from Meghalaya have made an impressive return from the 19th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship held in New Delhi, boasting a total of 41 medals. Among the standout achievements are gold medallists Audrella Carisa Marbaniang and Nathaniel Levin Suting. This triumph was officially announced on Wednesday. Officials reported that the medal tally for the state includes 10 gold, 16 silver, and 15 bronze medals, won across both kumite (sparring) and kata (choreographed movement) categories. In total, 35 karatekas were successful in clinching medals, with six athletes achieving the feat of securing two medals each, while 29 athletes earned one medal apiece. The dual medallists include Dominica Phidahun Kharbani with one silver and one bronze, Esaranaki Kharjana with one gold and one silver, Ferrando Wanniang with one gold and one bronze, Mebapynhun Marngar with one silver and one bronze, Nathaniel Levin Suting with one gold and one silver, and Xenia Rose Nongsiej with two silver medals. Other achievers in the gold medal category were Aventinus George Mylliem, Eric Banteinam Ryngnga, Esaranaki Kharjana, Fadrik Wanniang, Ferrando Wanniang, Garret Ivan Lyngdoh, Lapyntngen Mary Lamin, and Samuel Kurbah. The 57-member contingent from Meghalaya was led by Donboklang Lyngdoh, Greater EM Kharpuri, and Pynhunlang Kharbuli. The All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) has extended heartfelt congratulations to the medal winners for their "outstanding achievement" and has applauded all participants for their "spirited performance and dedication" throughout the championship.
