Indian Shuttlers Shine at Macau Open 2023 with Stellar Performances

Macau, Jul 29 (PTI) Star Indian shuttlers Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty showcased an impressive performance, advancing to the men's doubles second round of the Macau Open Super 300. They secured a straight-game victory against Malaysia's Low Hang Yee and Ng Eng Cheong with a score of 21-13, 21-15 in just 36 minutes.

The Asian Games champions, who regained their position within the top 10 of the BWF world rankings, executed a commanding performance. In the women's singles, Anmol Kharb and Tasnim Mir successfully progressed to the main draw by winning their qualification matches.

Anmol triumphed over Azerbaijan's Keisha Fatimah Azzahra with a scoreline of 21-11, 21-13, while Tasnim emerged victorious against Thailand's Tidapron Kleebyeesun, 21-14, 13-21, 21-17. Tasnim is set to face top seed Chen Yu Fei of China in the main draw's opening round, while Anmol prepares to take on Thailand's second seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

Meanwhile, the top-seeded women's doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand faced disappointment, exiting in the first round after a hard-fought battle that concluded with a score of 21-16, 20-22, 15-21 against Lin Xiao Min and Peng Yu Wei of Chinese Taipei.

In men's doubles action, Dingku Singh Konthoujam and Amaan Mohammad successfully advanced to the main draw by defeating Hong Kong's Law Cheuk Him and Yeung Shing Choi 21-18, 21-17. Their next challenge will be against fellow Indians Pruthvi Krishnamurthy Roy and Sai Pratheek K.

The mixed doubles pair of Thandrangini Hema Nagendra Babu and Priya Konjengbam also secured a spot in the main draw, where they will compete against Thailand’s Phuwanat Horbanluekit and Fungfa Korpthammakit.

Earlier, Satwik and Chirag had a commanding start, quickly building a 6-1 lead. Although the Malaysian pair narrowed the gap to 10-9, the Indian duo regained control to take the opening game 21-13. In the second game, the Malaysians maintained pressure until 13-14, but the former world No. 1 team from India pushed ahead, reaching 17-13, and sealing the match by taking four consecutive points.

In other news, Meiraba Luwang Maisnam was unable to qualify for the main draw, losing 15-21, 21-17, 13-21 to China’s Zhu Xuan Chen in the second round of qualification.
