New York, Sep 1 (PTI) Teenage Indian tennis sensation Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi made a triumphant entry into the second round of the junior girls' singles event at the US Open by defeating China's Zhang-Qian Wei. However, it was a disappointing exit for Hitesh Chauhan, who faced a straight-sets loss.

The 16-year-old Revathi, unseeded but promising, hails from Coimbatore and trains at the esteemed Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain. She impressively overcame her Chinese opponent with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory, wrapping up the match in just over an hour and a half.

Next up for Revathi is a challenging encounter in the second round against the second-seeded Hannah Klugman from the United Kingdom. Klugman showcased her dominance in her opening match, easing past the US's Aspen Schuman with a 6-0, 6-2 win.

Revathi has been making waves recently, having stunned several senior players to reach the semifinals of the Mumbai Open WTA125 tournament, despite being unranked at the time.

Meanwhile, Hitesh Chauhan, who trains at Round Glass in Chandigarh, had a tough outing, falling 2-6, 4-6 to American Jerrid Gaines Jr in a match that lasted one hour and 25 minutes.

Krish Tyagi also faced an early exit, losing 3-6, 1-6 to Sweden's Ludvig Hede in his opening round.

Both Hitesh and Krish will now turn their focus to the boys' doubles event, where they will look to make their mark.
