Maaya Revathi Advances to Second Round at US Open Junior Girls

New York, Sep 1 (PTI) Teenage Indian tennis sensation Maaya Rajeshwaran Revathi made an impressive start at the US Open, advancing to the second round in the junior girls' singles event.

The 16-year-old, who comes from Coimbatore and honed her skills at the renowned Rafael Nadal Academy in Mallorca, Spain, displayed remarkable grit as she overcame China's Zhang-Qian Wei with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 victory.

Revathi's win, achieved in just over an hour and a half, was largely due to her effective conversion of points on both her first and second serves.

In the next round, she faces a formidable opponent in second-seeded Hannah Klugman from the United Kingdom.

Klugman showed her dominance in her opening match by defeating Aspen Schuman of the US with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 scoreline.

Revathi, a rising star on the tennis circuit, recently made waves by upsetting multiple senior players to reach the semifinals of the 2025 WTA125 Mumbai Open, despite being unranked.
