Mumbai Indians Appoint Lisa Keightley as Women's Team Coach

Mumbai: The Mumbai Indians have bolstered their women’s team by appointing former Australian cricketer and two-time World Cup victor Lisa Keightley as the head coach, effective Thursday. Keightley was part of Australia’s victorious World Cup squads in 1997 and 2005 and has built a considerable reputation as one of the leading coaches in women's cricket, gaining experience with teams in Australia, England, and several top global leagues.

The Mumbai Indians women’s team has already established itself as the most successful outfit in Women's Premier League (WPL) history, clinching the championship twice in three seasons, with triumphs in the inaugural 2023 season and again in 2025.

Expressing excitement over the appointment, MI owner Nita Ambani stated, "We are thrilled to welcome Lisa Keightley to the Mumbai Indians family. She is a trailblazer in women’s cricket, having inspired generations with her passion, expertise, and pioneering spirit." Keightley’s arrival is expected to herald a new era for the team as they aim for greater achievements and continue their legacy of excellence.

Keightley expressed her enthusiasm, saying, "It's an honour to join the Mumbai Indians, a team that has set the benchmark in the WPL. I admire their culture of excellence and care." She looks forward to working with the talented group of players to build on past successes and inspire both on and off the field. Keightley boasts a notable coaching history, having been the first woman to serve as a full-time head coach for the England team and having coached both the Australian and England women’s teams.

In addition to her international stints, Keightley has been a key figure in franchise cricket, including roles in the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), The Hundred, and the WPL. Her recent success includes guiding the Northern Superchargers to victory in The Hundred's women's title just last month.

During her playing career as an opener, Keightley represented Australia in nine Tests, 82 ODIs, and one T20I.
