Kranti Goud: India's Bowling Sensation Eyes Faster Pace

Kranti Goud, a rising star in Indian cricket, shines with a stellar performance against Pakistan, earning her first Player-of-the-Match title. Determined to bowl faster, she aims to solidify her role in the Indian team.

Kranti Goud: India's Bowling Sensation Eyes Faster Pace

Colombo, Oct 6 (PTI) – Emerging as India's newfound bowling sensation, Kranti Goud has become a pivotal figure in the team, debuting on the international stage less than five months ago. Her sights are now set on increasing her bowling pace.

In a crucial Women's World Cup encounter on Sunday, Goud's exceptional bowling dismantled Pakistan's chase of 247, claiming a notable 3 for 20 in her 10 overs, with three maiden overs to her name.

Her remarkable efforts contributed to an emphatic 88-run victory over Pakistan, marking Goud's first Player-of-the-Match honor at the same Sri Lankan venue where she debuted for India in May.

Expressing her joy, she shared, "Debuting for India in Sri Lanka was special, and returning as Player of the Match here is a proud moment for me and my family. I'm thrilled," Goud said, visibly beaming after the game.

Discussing interactions with India's bowling coach, Aavishkar Salvi, Goud noted, "Currently, there's no emphasis on speed from the coach. Our priority lies in maintaining a consistent line and length rather than focusing too much on speed. Nevertheless, I aspire to bowl faster," she added. Dismissing opener Sadaf Shamas and following her instincts to get Aliya Riaz's wicket was crucial in putting Pakistan at 3/26.

Goud reflected on her decisive move by retaining a second slip after consulting with Harmanpreet Kaur. Her insistence proved effective when Riaz guided a catch to the second slip, "I was confident, and I trusted my judgment," she said.

Originally from Ghuwara, Madhya Pradesh, Goud's journey is a testament to her unwavering determination. Transitioning from a net bowler for the Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League just a year ago, she caught the attention of the UP Warriorz, who acquired her for a base price of Rs 10 lakh at the auction.

Subsequent injuries to Renuka Thakur and Pooja Vastrakar paved the way for her entry into the national team, where Goud seized the opportunity. A stellar performance during the England series, highlighted by a six-wicket haul in the crucial third ODI, secured her place in the squad, illustrating her upward trajectory since then.
