Keylor Navas Set to Join UNAM Pumas from Newell's Old Boys

Buenos Aires, July 22 (AP) Ex-Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas is on the verge of joining the UNAM Pumas of the Mexican league following a brief six-month stay in Argentina with Newell's Old Boys.

The 38-year-old Costa Rican goalkeeper had inked a two-year contract with Newell's Old Boys last January, but he received an enticing offer from Pumas just two weeks ago.

The Argentinian club announced on Monday that it will receive USD 2 million in the transfer deal. Pumas has yet to release an official statement regarding the transfer.

Navas did not play in the first two league matches in Argentina, missing the first game due to illness and requesting to be left on the bench for the second.

"Commitment, professionalism, and respect for the club's values are non-negotiable," stated Newell's Old Boys.

"To achieve our goals, it is essential that each member pulls in the same direction, always prioritizing the team over the individual".

Newell's, known as the boyhood club of Lionel Messi, is situated in Rosario, approximately 300 kilometers (186 miles) northeast of Buenos Aires.

Navas joined Newell's Old Boys after concluding his second term with Paris Saint-Germain, where he made just six appearances across all competitions.

During his first successful period with PSG, Navas was instrumental in helping the club secure two French league titles.

Navas commenced his professional career with Saprissa in Costa Rica in 2005 and embarked on his European journey four years later with Albacete. He subsequently moved to Levante before joining Real Madrid for the 2014-15 season.

At Real Madrid, Navas achieved remarkable success by winning a league title, a Super Cup, and three Champions League titles. Additionally, he represented Costa Rica in three World Cups.
