Keshav Maharaj Reaches 200 Test Wickets Milestone

South Africa's stand-in captain Keshav Maharaj has made history as the first South African spinner to achieve the milestone of 200 Test wickets. This remarkable feat was accomplished during the second day of the opening Test against Zimbabwe. At the age of 35, Maharaj has consistently developed into the leading spinner for South Africa in Test cricket throughout his nine-year journey. He reached this historic landmark by dismissing Zimbabwe's Craig Ervine, with a sharp stumping by wicketkeeper Kyle Verreynne. Maharaj's achievement cements his status as the most successful slow bowler in South African Test history, surpassing the previous record held by Hugh Tayfield at 170 wickets. As of now, Maharaj has claimed 202 wickets from 59 Tests, along with 11 five-wicket hauls and one ten-wicket match effort. Apart from his Test accomplishments, Maharaj has also garnered an impressive 631 wickets in 166 First-Class matches. In the current Test, Zimbabwe managed 251 in response to South Africa's declaration at 418 for nine. Maharaj delivered a stellar performance with figures of 3/70 from 16.4 overs, supported by Wiaan Mulder who took 4/50 in 16 overs.
