Kane Williamson returns to NZ's test squad for the West Indies series, after missing recent matches due to injury and overseas commitments. Daryl Mitchell also rejoins, with promising talents like Zak Foulkes included. The first test starts on December 2.

Kane Williamson Returns to NZ Test Squad for West Indies Series

Wellington, New Zealand — Kane Williamson is set to make his return to New Zealand's test cricket scene, having been named in the 14-man squad for the upcoming three-test series against the West Indies. This follows his absence from the Black Caps' test series in Zimbabwe and several white-ball matches this season.

Williamson's involvement in New Zealand cricket is managed through a limited contract, allowing him to participate in lucrative overseas leagues while also committing to national duties when available.

"Kane's prowess on the field is undeniable, and having his expertise and leadership back in the test team is invaluable," said New Zealand head coach Rob Walter. "After some time off to prepare for red-ball cricket, he's eagerly anticipating joining Northern Districts in the second round of the Plunket Shield before the first test."

In recent play, Williamson appeared in the first two of New Zealand's three ODIs against England before being sidelined with a minor groin injury.

The squad also features pace bowlers Zak Foulkes, Jacob Duffy, and Blair Tickner. Foulkes made an impressive debut against Zimbabwe, taking nine wickets. Tickner has not played a test for New Zealand since 2023.

"Zak's debut performance against Zimbabwe couldn't have been better, earning him a deserved spot in the squad," Walter noted. "Jacob and Blair bring experience and understand the demands of performing at the highest level."

Unavailable for selection due to injury are Will O'Rourke and Ben Sears, while Kyle Jamieson is being rested as he continues his recovery from a back injury.

Daryl Mitchell is also making his return after recovering from a groin injury sustained during New Zealand's recent ODI series against the West Indies. Meanwhile, Glenn Phillips remains sidelined due to injury.

The first test is scheduled to begin on December 2 in Christchurch.
