Rohit Sharma delivered a superb performance at the season's end, but it was insufficient to prevent another disappointing chapter for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2024. Their campaign ended with an 18-run loss to Lucknow Super Giants, resulting in a last-place finish.

In addition to Rohit’s top-order brilliance, young talent Naman Dhir showcased his skills with a half-century. Dhir's effort, which included five sixes and four fours, came late in the game when the pressure was off, merely reducing the margin of defeat for Mumbai Indians. Despite his late assault, it couldn't change the outcome, marking their 10th defeat of the season. This is the second time in the last three years that Mumbai Indians have finished at the bottom of the table.

Reflecting on the season, MI head coach Mark Boucher expressed his disappointment. "On paper, I thought we'd do a lot better than what we've done. We just haven't managed to put our batting and our bowling together in one single match. There's always been one that's let the other one down, which is unfortunate. But yeah, just to sum up your question, yeah really disappointing," Boucher said.

Addressing the team's failures, Boucher emphasized the need for thorough evaluation and corrective measures. "Yeah, there's certain things that we need to address and as I said, we are going to address them. Now is probably not the right time; everyone's very disappointed and emotional so no good decision will get made in the nearest time which is in a week's time, I think. We need to go back, need to evaluate exactly what's gone on, things that we need improvement on, whether it be on the field or off the field stuff, and I'm sure that we will. We've got some great heads within the management team as well and we'll sit down and we'll find a way of how to make it better ultimately for the players to come out and produce the sort of cricket that I think that we know these players can produce. Which is under par this season," Boucher stated.
