RCB IPL 2024: Glenn Maxwell reveals he's also nursing hip injury, unlikely for clash against KKR

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell, who has taken a "mental and physical break" to address his poor form in the ongoing IPL season, has revealed that he is also nursing a "hip strain," further complicating his return to the playing XI for RCB's upcoming away match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday.

Maxwell, 35, has been struggling to find his rhythm in the tournament, managing just 32 runs in six innings at an average of 5.33. His recent dip in form led him to withdraw from RCB's previous match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, citing fatigue and mental exhaustion. Speaking on ESPN's 'Around the Wicket' show, Maxwell opened up about his hip injury, shedding light on his current physical condition.

"I've actually got a little bit of a hip strain so I've got a few more days off and during recovery," Maxwell stated. "So I've got a little period here where I'm still training, still trying to get myself right. If there is a spot that becomes available, I'll obviously put my hand up and take it."

Maxwell emphasized his commitment to returning to the field once he feels fit and ready to contribute effectively to the team. However, he acknowledged the need to prioritize his recovery and regain his form before making a comeback.

"It's not one of those things where I've set a date that I'll be out for three games then I'll come back whenever I'm ready," Maxwell clarified. "That's not how it works. I haven't been at a level that's good enough to warrant a spot on the side this year."
