Mohammed Shami provides recovery update after ankle surgery

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has crossed a significant milestone in his recovery from an ankle injury, having undergone surgery last month to address the issue. On Wednesday, Shami shared an encouraging update on his rehabilitation journey, signaling his readiness to move forward with the healing process after the removal of his stitches.

In a heartfelt message posted on the social media platform 'X', Shami expressed his gratitude for the medical advancements that have supported his recovery thus far. "Hello everyone! I wanted to provide an update on my recovery process. It has been 15 days since my surgery, and I recently had my stitches removed. I am thankful for the advancements and looking forward to the next stage of my healing journey," he conveyed, alongside three photos documenting his progress.

The absence of the 33-year-old from the cricket field has been notable, particularly since his last appearance in the ODI World Cup in 2023, where he played a pivotal role in India's campaign. Despite experiencing discomfort and issues with his landing, Shami's commitment didn't waver, as he managed to claim 24 wickets, demonstrating his resilience and dedication to the team.

Regrettably, Shami's injury has led to his withdrawal from the recent five-match Test series against England and the forthcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Furthermore, it has been confirmed that, along with his colleague Prasidh Krishna, Shami will not participate in this year's T20 World Cup.

Having been honoured with the Arjuna Award, Shami's illustrious career spans over a decade, during which he has accumulated 229 wickets in Tests, 195 in ODIs, and 24 in T20Is.
