MI vs RR: Watch Trent Boult unleash havoc on Mumbai Indians in his first spell | IPL 2024

MI vs RR: Watch Trent Boult unleash havoc on Mumbai Indians in his first spell | IPL 2024

New Zealand pacer Trent Boult turned the game on its head with a spectacular opening spell for the Rajasthan Royals, claiming three vital wickets against his old squad, the Mumbai Indians. This devastating performance placed the Royals in a dominant position right from the get-go.

In a stunning turn of events, Boult dismissed Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir in the very first over, with both batsmen returning to the pavilion without scoring. The dismissal of Rohit Sharma, a beloved figure and the former captain of Mumbai Indians, plunged the stadium into a hush, leaving fans and spectators in disbelief.

Boult’s prowess in the powerplay overs is underscored by his remarkable achievement of taking 25 wickets in the first over of IPL innings since 2020, a feat unmatched by any other bowler in the league, with the next closest competitor having no more than 8.

The onslaught didn’t stop there, as Dewald Brevis, entering as an impact substitute, was also sent back to the dugout for a golden duck in Boult's subsequent over. Rohit, Dhir and Brevis, in fact, all perished for first-ball ducks.

This early blitz by Boult set the stage for Nandre Burger to capitalize on the mounting pressure, leading to Ishan Kishan's dismissal, caught by Sanju Samson. The cumulative effect of these early blows left Mumbai reeling at 20/4, marking it as their second-lowest total at the loss of their fourth wicket in IPL history.
