IPL 2024, MI vs DC: Mumbai Indians register maiden win, beat Delhi by 29 runs

The Mumbai Indians are finally off the mark. The 5-time champions beat the Delhi Capitals by 29 runs in first match of a super Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium.

Rishabh Pant's decision to put Mumbai into bat backfired as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan put on an 80-run stand.

While the Hitman slammed a 27-ball-49, Kishan smashed 42 off just 23 balls before both were sent back by Axar Patel.

It was a forgettable comeback for Suryakumar Yadav as he perished for a two-ball duck on his first game since mid-December last year.

Hardik Pandya began well with a couple of powerful hits but Tilak Varma disappointed with just 6. It was Tim David then counter attacked with an unbeaten 21-ball-45.

However, Mumbai’s acceleration eventually died down when the skipper was sent back for 39.

But Romario Shepherd clobbered 32 runs off Anrich Nortje's 20th over and powered Mumbai to 234/5, their highest total at the Wankhede.

In reply, Delhi lost David Warner early but Prithvi Shaw looked solid and scored 66.

Abishek Porel too impressed with 41 but both preished in quick succession. Rishabh Pant too went back for just 1 as DC found themselves wanting at 153/4.

Tristan Stubbs kept the run-chase alive with an unbeaten 71 off just 25 balls but no support from the other end meant that DC could manage 205/8.

While Delhi made it a hat-trick of losses, Mumbai registered their maiden win of the season after 3 consecutive defeats.
