Veteran discus thrower Seema Punia won a bronze for her third medal in as many editions of the Asian Games with a throw of 58.62m. "This is my last Asian Games and I am ending with a medal. I think I will be looking ahead to be able to qualify for the Paris Olympics maybe through ranking," she said.
The 40-year-old Punia won a gold in the 2014 Asian Games and then added a bronze in 2018. She has also won three silver and one bronze in the Commonwealth Games in her over 20-year international career.
In the women's heptathlon, Nandini Agasara took the bronze ahead of 2018 gold medallist Swapna Barman after winning the 800m race, the last of the gruelling seven-event competition.
Nandini collected an aggregate of 5712 points while Barman, who finished third in 800m, secured 5708. China's Zheng Ninali won the gold with an aggregate of 6149 points while Voronina Ekaterina of Uzbekistan was second with 6056.

While Wu Yanni grabbed the 2nd spot, another Chinese Li Yunwei won the race.&nbsp; After a comprehensive review, Yarraji's result was updated to a silver medal finish and the Chinese athlete was disqualified. Interestingly Wu Yanni was also disqualified for a false start in teh Asian Athletics Championships in 2023, where Yarraji won gold.&nbsp;

World No. 3 men's doubles pair of Satwik and Chirag then went on a smashing spree to outclass world No 2. Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang 21-15 21-18 in 55 minutes to extend the lead to 2-0. Srikanth, however, squandered an 18-14 lead and multiple game points in the first game to go down 22-24 9-21 against All England champion Li Shifeng in the third singles to expose India's weakest link -- the second doubles and third singles matches.
Scratch pair of Dhruv Kapila and Sai Pratheek Krishna Prasad then lost 6-21 15-21 to world No. 8 Liu Yu Chen and Ou Xuan Yi, while Prannoy's replacement Mithun Manjunath, ranked 53, went down 12-21 4-21 against world No. 20 Weng Hong Yang in the third singles as India finished second best.
Despite the loss, it is a creditable performance from the Indian team as it sealed India's second silver medal in badminton at the continental championships with two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu winning the first in women's singles in the 2018 edition.
The last time the Indian men won a badminton medal in the team championships was at the 1986 edition in Seoul where Sen's mentors Prakash Padukone and Vimal Kumar played a crucial role.

Indian archers showed tenacity and authority in equal measure to storm into the quarterfinals in all six team events of the Asian Games here on Monday.

India have got a bye into the quarters by virtue of topping the qualifications in the women's compound team event.
First, it was the top-seeded compound mixed team of Ojas Deotale and Jyothi Surekha Vennam, who showed the way as they dropped just one point from 16 arrows to eliminate UAE's Amna Alawadhi and Mohammed Binamro 159-151.
The duo will take on formidable Malaysia (No. 8 seed) in the quarters, and thereafter, they should have an easy draw till the final.
Then, the Indian recurve mixed pair duo of Atanu Das and Ankita Bhakat were at their resilient best and overcame a first-set deficit to defeat Malaysia in a three-setter.
The fifth-seeded Indian duo of Das and Ankita rallied to beat the Malaysian team of Syaqiera Binti Mashayikh and Muhamad Zarif Syahir Bin Zolkepeli 6-2 (39-38, 37-36, 39-33).
The Malaysia pair enjoyed a 2-0 lead with three 10s including one X in the first set. But, the experienced Indian duo bounced back with two 10s and went on to draw level, as the Malaysians crumbled under pressure.
The Malaysians hit the red ring (8) once and went on to lose the second by a slender one-point margin.
There was more misery in store for the Malaysians who shot into the red ring thrice (8-8-8), while Das-Ankita drilled in three perfect 10s en route to a six-point win in the third set.
The Indian pair sealed the issue with three more 10s in the fourth set and set up a last-eight clash against the fourth-seeded Indonesians.
Should they overcome the Indonesian challenge, the Indians may run into the top-seeded Koreans in a potential semifinal clash in the Olympic-qualifying event.
There are six quota spots available from the Asian Games -- the recurve mixed team winners and two archers ranked high in the individual events.
In the compound men's team event, the second-seeded Indians trio of Ojas, Abhishek Verma and Prathamesh Jawkar thrashed 15th seed Singapore (Woon Teng NG, Lee Chung Hee Alan, Jun Hui Goh) 235-219.
The Indian triumvirate had a cautious start and had four 10s to take a 58-55 lead.
But the Indians came on their own from the second end onwards and dropped just three points to rout their rivals by a 16-point margin.
The compound men's team is pitted against lower-ranked Bhutan in the quarters and will likely face the third-seeded Chinese Taipei in the semifinals.
The top-seeded Indian women's compound team of Jyothi, Aditi Swami and Parneet Kaur, who got a bye into the quarters, will open its campaign against ninth-seeded Hong Kong, who ousted Bangladesh 225-218.
The Indian men's recurve team of Das, Dhiraj and Tushar Shelke beat Hong Kong's Kwok Yin Chai, Law Kwun Pok Lucien and Wn Chun Kit 6-0 (58-47, 57-49, 57-55) in a lopsided contest.
The third-seeded Indians, who face lower-ranked Mongolia (No. 11) in the last-eight, have an easy draw till the final, with Korea and Japan in the top half.
The unfancied women's recurve team of Ankita Bhakat, Bhajan Kaur and Simranjeet Kaur also shone through, ousting 12th-seeded Thailand.
The fifth-seeded Indians won 5-1 (49-47, 54-54, 55-54) and are pitted against fourth-seeded Japan in a tough quarterfinal match-up.

Heptathlon athlete Swapna Barman, who narrowly missed the podium by finishing fourth in her event at the Asian Games 2023, has launched a scathing attack on compatriot Nandini Agasara, who won bronze ahead of her.
Barman expressed her concerns on Twitter, alleging that her medal was lost to a transgender woman, urging for support and highlighting a potential violation of athletics rules.
She wrote, "I have lost my Asian Games bronze medal to a transgender woman at the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou,China. I want my medal back as it is against the rules of our Athletics. Help me and support me please."
In the closely contested women's heptathlon event, Swapna Barman finished only four points behind Nandini Agasara. In 2018, Barman had won Gold in the event in Jakarta.

On the ninth day of intense competitions, the Indian women's team&mdash;comprising Sanjana Bathula, Karthika Jagadeeswaran, Heeral Sadhu, and Aarathy Kasturi Raj&mdash;made a strong start, clinching bronze with an impressive timing of 4:34.861s. They stood behind the gold medallists from Chinese Taipei (4:19.447) and South Korea (4:21.146).

According to Technical Rule 16.8, any athlete responsible for a false start shall be disqualified by the starter.

Jyothi Yarraji was first disqualified, then allowed to run and eventually finished third, all these happened in a span of few minutes during a farcical women's 100m hurdles race at the Asian Games in Hangzhou on Sunday.
Drama unfolded in the last event of the day at the 'Big Lotus' stadium when the women's 100m hurdles was stopped after the gun was fired. Replays clearly showed that Chinese runner Wu Yanni was responsible for the false start as she got off the blocks even before the gunshot was taken.
The judges reviewed the start of the race at the on-field screen and then disqualified Yanni. But to the surprise of the Indian camp, Yarraji was also told that she would be out due to false start.
Yarraji stood her ground for a while and protested and the race was held up for a few minutes.
In sprint races, under 100 millisecond rule, any athlete who reacts within 100 milliseconds (0.100 second) of the gun going off is considered to have false started. Later, the judges allowed both of them to compete and Yanni finished second behind her Chinese compatriot Lin Yuwei (12.74) while Yarraji (13.04) was third.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) immediately filed a protest and within minutes, Yanni was disqualified under Technical Rule 16.8 and Yarraji's bronze was upgraded to silver.
According to Technical Rule 16.8, any athlete responsible for a false start shall be disqualified by the starter.
But, a note to the rule says "when one or more athletes make a false start, others are inclined to follow and ... any athlete who does so has also made a false start. The starter should warn or disqualify only such athletes or athletes who, in their opinion, were responsible for the false start." AFI president and World Athletics Vice President and Executive Board member Adille Sumariwalla made it clear that allowing Wu Yanni to run under protest was a wrong decision as "it was she who broke the gun".
He also said that the matter would be taken up at the highest level to ensure that this kind of thing does not happen again. "They (judges) committed a mistake, they have accepted it and medal (silver) has been given (Yarraji)," he said.
"Breaking the Gun" in athletics terminology means getting off the blocks before the shot is fired.
"Rule says you cannot break the gun, it comes on the screen (if false started). What they did not realise was, the Chinese runner (Wu Yanni) has clearly done it (false started), naturally when the first girl goes out before the gun, others will also get out.
"Yarraji went second, and they were after her (Yarraji) to try and get her out. I said from above (the stands) that let her (Yarraji) run under protest. But to make the Chinese woman (Wu Yanni) run under protest is wrong. You can't do that because she has broken the gun." Asked about the quick decision, Sumariwalla said, "We lodged a protest. It was black and white and the decision (to upgrade Yarraji's bronze to silver) was to be there.
"But rest assured that this will be taken up at the highest level to ensure that this does not happen again." AFI senior vice president and legendary long jumper Anju Bobby George termed it as an "unusual drama" rarely seen in a major competition.
"The runner who leaves the ground first is disqualified. The Chinese girl was one and a half steps ahead and Jyothi was still on the ground, she did not leave the ground. But they (judges) came to Jyothi and said you are out. Jyothi was on her block. It was a surprise to everybody, what a drama they did. It was very unusual.
"This is the first time I am seeing in such a competition that somebody is out and then in. We protested by submitting USD 100. It was to be done within 30 minutes and we did that immediately."
