IPL 2023: How RCB’s Mohammed Siraj turned his T20 career around

In 2022, Siraj had only taken 9 wickets in 15 matches at an economy of more than 10. While he has had decent IPL seasons before, 2023 is proving to be his best by a long way.

IPL 2023: How RCB’s Mohammed Siraj turned his T20 career around

RCB’s Mohd Siraj is currently the purple cap holder.

With 12 wickets in 6 matches at an economy under 7, Siraj is enjoying his best IPL till date.

And managing that feat despite playing 4 of the 6 games at the Chinnaswamy is a testament to how much he has improved as a bowler.

He has already surpassed his tally for the previous seasons. In 2022, he had only taken 9 wickets in 15 matches at an economy of more than 10. While he has had decent IPL seasons before, 2023 is proving to be his best by a long way.

Siraj’s hunger to play all 3 formats for India has proved pivotal in his upturn in form. In a video released by the IPL, Siraj revealed how his poor returns in IPL 2022 galvanised him to do better.

“My last IPL did not go well. I was thinking now I am part of the Indian team. The things I wanted to execute I was not able to execute. I also wanted to play all three formats.”

In the video, Siraj also explained how he always wanted to wear the purple cap.

“In my first year when I was playing for Sunrisers and in the final Bhuvi bhai won the Purple Cap. At that time I went to receive the cap on his behalf. That day I realised I too one day want to wear the purple cap.”

While it’s still early doors in the tournament, Siraj has shown that no amount of hard work goes unrewarded, and why staying hungry is the key to success.
