IPL 2023: From almost becoming a sweeper to being KKR's hero, the Rinku Singh story

Rinku Singh may be a household name after his heroics against the Gujarat Titans but not many knew the youngster till last year.

Despite being with KKR for 6 years, nothing came easy for the 25-year-old. Rinku had to wait a while before getting a chance to shine.

Before he became a professional cricketer, Rinku was asked to sweep the floors. Though he needed money as he came from a humble background where his father delivered LPG cylinders but he didn't want to do that job.

Rinku rather focused on his cricket and was picked up by Punjab Kings in IPL 2017 but didn't get a game. KKR bought the youngster the next year but he played only 10 games for the franchise in his first 3 years.

However, KKR believed in him and never released the youngster. He finally got a longer rope in IPL 2022 and straight away made a mark.

Rinku impressed with his Strokeplay and burst on to the scene with a 15-ball-40 in KKR's final game last year. His knock though went in vain as Kolkata fell short by just 2 runs while chasing 211.

But his moment of magic came a year later when Rinku proved his mettle in the game against the Gujarat Titans.
It may be extremely hot in Ahmedabad on Sunday, but Rinku Singh brought a storm to the Narendra Modi Stadium.

It rained sixes and when the dust settled, it was the little man from Uttar Pradesh who came out as the hero.

You may have seen a batter hit 1 or 2 sixes to win a game of cricket but Rinku did the unthinkable and smashed 5 biggies off the last 5 balls to steal Gujarat Giants' thunder in IPL 2023. His fiery 48-run knock helped KKR win a thriller by 3 wickets.
