IPL 2022: What went wrong for Royal Challengers Bangalore?

Fans were hoping that Royal Challengers Bangalore would shed the horrors of their last two playoffs appearance when they came out to challenge the Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 on Friday. But inevitable happened, once again the dreams of fans were shattered into pieces. For the first time since the inception of IPL, Bangalore had a superb bowling line-up but they still failed to make progress beyond playoffs.

Here are three reasons why Bangalore are still denied of an IPL title:

Faf, Kohli, and Maxwell failed to inspire the team with the bat

The big three in the RCB line-up failed to fire in most parts of the tournament. Faf was good at the start but failed miserably with the bat as the tournament progresses barring one or two games. Kohli got his mojo back in RCB's final league game but it came too late. Glenn Maxwell was not able to repeat his previous season's performance which made Bangalore's middle-order brittle. Lack of proper batting all-round Bangalore were one of the top teams who did not have any batting all-rounder in their ranks. And on most occasions, it seemed Dinesh Karthik had to do much alone while chasing a big target.

Siraj not at his previous best

Mohammed Siraj was one of the retained players in the RCB squad but he failed to provide any support to Josh Hazlewood and Harshal Patel both in powerplay and death overs. He picked just 9 wickets and leaked runs at an economy of 10.07 in the 15 matches that he played.
