IPL 2022, MI VS LSG: Lucknow hand Mumbai 6th defeat, win by 18 runs

The 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians have apparently lost their chance to make it to the playoffs this season as they suffered their hurtful 6th straight defeat of IPL 2022.

Debutants Lucknow who registered their 4th win of the season defeated Rohit Sharma’s team by 18 runs at the Brabourne Stadium on Saturday.

Chasing a daunting 200-run target, Mumbai were never in the game as they lost wickets at regular intervals. The opening duo failed yet again as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan for paltry 7 and 13 before being removed by Avesh Khan and Marcus Stoinis. While in Dewald Brevis and Suryakumar Yadav Mumbai saw some hope, but both lost their wickets after adding 31 in 13 and 37 in 27 balls. Kieron Pollard’s cameo of 25-run went in vain as Mumbai could only make 181/9 in 20 overs. Avesh Khan emerged as the top performer for Lucknow as he picked 3 wickets.

Earlier, KL Rahul produced scintillating innings for Lucknow as he smashed his third ton in IPL 2022. Rahul who came out to bat as an opener remained unbeaten on 103 runs. First, he stitched a 52-run opening stand with de Kock then a 72-run partnership with Manish Pandey as Mumbai bowlers looked helpless. Finally, a brisk 43 runs partnership with Deepak Hooda helped Lucknow post a mammoth 199-4.
