Chasing a stiff 199-run target, captain Rohit Sharma gave his team a flying start but his inning was cut short by Kagiso Rabada. Ishan Kishan followed his captain shortly. Then Dewald Brevis, known as Baby AB, showed why he is rated as a big thing in cricket as the South African blasted Rahul Chahar for four sixes in an over and turned the match in favour of Mumbai.

But Punjab Kings brought themselves back in the game thanks to two runouts in which Suryakumar Yadav was involved. Surya tried to steer his team home but got out in the 19th over. Odean Smith scalped three wickets in the last over. Thus handing the five-time IPL champions their fifth consecutive defeat this season.

Earlier, skipper Mayank Agarwal and veteran Shikhar Dhawan struck their first half-centuries of the season while opening the batting. The duo stitched a 97-run opening stand before Murugan Ashwin took the wicket of Mayank. Punjab innings saw a slump in the middle overs as the spirited Mumbai bowling unit led by Jasprit Bumrah plugged the run flow. However, youngster Jitesh Sharma and Shahrukh Khan ensured Punjab Kings' innings would end on a high. Jitesh Sharma played a blinder with a 15-ball 30 while Shahrukh hammered a couple of sixes in the last over and powered PBKS to 198-5.
