Chasing a big 196-run target, Wriddiman Saha and Shubman Gill provided a 69-run opening start. After that, Umran Malik produced a fiery spell of bowling and claimed his maiden IPL-fifer. It seemed Hyderabad would win the match comfortably. However, Rashid Khan and Rahul Tewatia had different plans. Both displayed tremendous skills of power-hitting in the last three overs. With 22 runs needed off the last over, Tewatia smashed the first ball of Marco Jansen's over with a six. Rashid then smashed three sixes off the last four deliveries to lift Gujarat to the top of the IPL 2022 points table.

Earlier, Hyderabad were off to a poor start as Mohammed Shami removed captain Kane Williamson and Rahul Tripathi early. Then Abhishek Sharma and Aiden Markram stitched a 96-run stand for the third wicket. Abhishek blazed away to 65 off 42 deliveries, while Markram made a 40-ball 56.

Then, Shashank Singh went hammer and tongs in the slog overs and smashed Lockie Ferguson for three successive sixes to score 25 runs in the final over. Shashank's 26-run cameo powered Hyderabad to 195-6.
