Archery World Cup: India makes stunning comeback, women's recurve team enters final

A resurgent Indian women's team at the Archery World Cup stage-3 overcame their poor run in the ranking round to ensure a medal for the nation on Thursday.

The women's recurve team of Ankita Bhakat, Simranjeet Kaur and Dipika Kumari who had slipped out of the top 30 in the qualifying round entered the final in a resounding manner. They will now face third seed Chinese Taipei on Sunday.

In the lead-up to the finals, the 13th seed Indian side defeated Britain, Ukraine and Turkey. While they overcame 4th seed Ukraine 5-1 and Great Britain 6-0 in the quarterfinals, the Indian trio ousted Turkey with a thrilling 5-3 win in the semis.

Meanwhile, India's ace compound archer Jyothi Surekha Vennam has kept India's hopes alive for a 2nd medal after she qualified for the semifinals in the women's individual section. The World Championship silver medallist defeated Estonia's Lissell Jaatma to seal the semis spot.

The men’s team’s outing however came to an end early as they were beaten by Switzerland. In the individual event, Abhishek Verma’s campaign also came to a halt in the last eight.
