Thrilling India-England Test Series Ends in Draw with Stirring Performances

London, Aug 4 (PTI) - In a thrilling climax to the five-match series, India, under the captaincy of Shubman Gill, managed to draw the series against England in a vibrant display of cricketing prowess. The series concluded with both teams locked at 2-2 following India’s stunning victory in the fifth Test.

Key to India’s triumph was pacer Mohammed Siraj, who delivered a breathtaking performance by taking 5 for 104. He wrapped up the series with 23 wickets, emerging as the highest wicket-taker among both sides.

Chasing a daunting target of 374, England found themselves in a promising position at 339 for 6 at the close of the penultimate day. However, rain and bad light curtailed their momentum. The final day dawned brightly for India as they swiftly dismissed the remaining English batsmen to bowl them out for 367.

Sachin Tendulkar led the praise from the Indian cricket fraternity, exclaiming, "Test cricket... absolute goosebumps. Series 2–2, Performance 10/10! SUPERMEN from INDIA! What a Win," in a celebratory tweet.

Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly acknowledged the team’s consistency and performances from key players. "Exceptional series from Jadeja, Washington, Pant ..so much consistency from this young team. @bcci," he remarked.

Adding his voice, Wasim Jaffer humorously tweeted on 'X' that despite the series being drawn, India won an epic contest, referencing the boundary count as a unique tiebreaker.

Anil Kumble, another legend of the game, expressed his delight, "Well played India!! What a series… #INDvsENG. Well done to everyone involved from both teams. Stunning performance today by @mdsirajofficial and @prasidh43 to hold their nerves. Congratulations @ShubmanGill and the team for a great series!"

Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav was equally thrilled, stating, "What a solid show, boys! Love watching this team fight and finish strong till the very end #TeamIndia."

Ajinkya Rahane noted, "Test cricket doesn't get better than this. Tense finish, pressure moments, and character on display. Well done @BCCI."

Irfan Pathan lauded Siraj for his determination, "Iron body with heart of a Lion. Mohammed Siraj," while Harbhajan Singh echoed this sentiment, "Brilliant from Siraj and Prasidh. What a win for us. Great Test match. @mdsirajofficial @prasidh43 @BCCI. Congratulations to every member of the team @ShubmanGill. Tum sab ne jeeta DIL. Love you guys."

The thrilling series also captured the admiration of former England captain Michael Vaughan, who stated, "Wow .. I haven't witnessed anything quite like that .. an incredible series .. #ENGvIND."

Prasidh Krishna played a pivotal role as well, with figures of 4 for 126, taking crucial wickets that turned the match in India’s favor.
