India vs Bangladesh: Shubman Gill's brilliant ton in vain as Men in Blue lose by 6 runs | Asia Cup 2023

India, who made as many as 5 changes for the dead rubber against Bangladesh, saw their batters fail against the Bangladeshi bowling attack, with Shubman Gill and Axar Patel being the only exceptions.

India vs Bangladesh: Shubman Gill's brilliant ton in vain as Men in Blue lose by 6 runs | Asia Cup 2023

Shubman Gill’s terrific century went down the drain as Bangladesh ended their Asia Cup campaign on a high by defeating favourites India by 6 runs in the final Super Four clash in Colombo.

After electing to bowl first, India who decided to rest their key players kept the Bangla Tigers under check. But despite the regular fall of wicket, captain Shakib, who added 101 runs for the 5th wicket with Towid Hridoy, made a gritty 80 for his side before falling prey to Shardul Thakur. Nasum Ahmed later added a crucial 44 off 45 to help Bangladesh post a 265-run target.

In response, Shubman Gill who registered his 5th ODI hundred was the lone bright spot in India’s batting. His 121 off 133 balls was exceptional but did not prove sufficient as the youngster hardly received any support from the other end. After Mehedi Hasan ousted Gill, Axar Patel did try to bring India back in the game with a 42 but Bangladesh bowlers came down heavily on the Men in Blue to help their team register their first win against India after 11 years in Asia Cup.
