India Wins Gold at Asian Shooting Championships in Women’s Team Event

Shymkent, Kazakhstan, Aug 26: In an impressive display at the Asian Shooting Championships on Tuesday, Olympian Sift Kaur Samra led the Indian team to victory in the women's 50m Rifle 3-Positions team event. She collaborated with seasoned shooter Anjum Moudgil and promising talent Ashi Chouksey to secure the coveted gold medal. The trio amassed a total of 1753 points, outpacing Japan and South Korea, who scored 1750 and 1745, respectively.

Samra, a world record holder, fired an outstanding 589 points. Ashi Chouksey contributed with a commendable 586, while Anjum managed to add 578 points to their team's total. Both Samra and Ashi advanced to the individual finals, finishing second and fifth in the qualification round. However, due to the unique circumstances involving another Indian shooter, Shriyanka Sadandi, who topped the qualification but was competing in the 'Ranking Points Only' (RPO) category, Samra and Ashi were classified as first and fourth for the individual eight-shooter final.

In the RPO category, competitors are not eligible for medals, which allowed Samra and Ashi to progress. Veteran and two-time Olympian Anjum Moudgil ended the qualification round in 22nd place amidst a strong field of 41 shooters.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Neeru Dhanda, a National Games champion, marked one of her most memorable moments by clinching the women's trap gold medal.
