India Dominates West Indies in First Test with Strong Batting Display

Ahmedabad, October 3 (PTI) - India asserted their dominance on day two of the first Test against the West Indies by reaching a commanding 448 for five, ending the day with a substantial lead of 286 runs.

Centuries from KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja highlighted India's robust performance. Jadeja (104 not out) and Washington Sundar (9 not out) were at the crease when stumps were called.

The partnership between Jadeja and Jurel was particularly noteworthy as they added 206 runs for the fifth wicket to place the hosts in firm control of the match.

Dhruv Jurel, the 24-year-old, celebrated his maiden Test century during the innings. KL Rahul had earlier contributed with a sparkling hundred of his own, scoring exactly 100, before being dismissed shortly after lunch.

India started the day at 121 for two, with their captain Shubman Gill (50) exiting in the morning session. Rahul's departure right after the break momentarily halted their momentum, but the subsequent partnership revived it.

On the previous day, the West Indies had been skittled out for a meager 162, setting the stage for India's batting display.

Brief Scores: West Indies first innings: 162 all out. India first innings: 448 for 5 in 128 overs (KL Rahul 100, Dhruv Jurel 125, Ravindra Jadeja 104 not out; Roston Chase 2/90).
