New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Mukesh Nelavalli triumphed in the men's 25m pistol event, securing the gold medal, as Tejaswani Singh claimed silver in the women's division. This stellar performance helped India clinch the top spot on the medals table at the ISSF Junior World Cup on Wednesday.

Mukesh, who is the junior world champion in this non-Olympic category, built on his precision stage score of 289 from the previous day, delivering a remarkable 296 in the rapid-fire stage, resulting in a total of 585, which earned him the gold.

Aleksandr Kovalev, competing as an Individual Neutral Athlete (AIN), took the silver with 577 points, having previously secured the 25m rapid-fire pistol gold earlier in the tournament. Meanwhile, Sahil Choudhary added to India's success with a bronze, achieving a score of 573.

India topped the medals tally with a total of 19 medals in Olympic events, consisting of six gold, eight silver, and five bronze medals. The AIN competitors followed in second place with 10 medals, including four gold, two silver, and four bronze medals. Italy finished third with a tally of five medals — two gold, two silver, and one bronze.

In addition to this, India collected two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals in non-Olympic events, such as the 50m rifle prone for men and women and the 25m pistol for men in the junior individual category.

Tejaswani, who had previously clinched gold at the Junior World Cup in Suhl earlier this year, excelled in the women's 25m pistol, securing silver after scoring 30 in the final. She had dominated the qualification round with a score of 580.

The gold in the event went to Aleksandra Tikhonova, an Individual Neutral Athlete, who scored 33 in the final. Italy's Alessandra Fait captured the bronze with a score of 28. Among the other Indian finalists, Naamya Kapoor finished fourth with a score of 21, while Riya Shirish Thatte was fifth with 16.

The trap mixed team junior final featured a competitive all-Czech showdown, with Tereza Zaviskova and Tomas Nantl narrowly defeating compatriots Lea Kucerova and Kamil Bednar by a score of 39–38 to take the gold.

European junior champions Irene Del Rey Ruiz and Isaac Hernandez from Spain overcame Italy's Sofia Gori and Luca Gerri 7–6 in a tiebreak shoot-off to claim the bronze, following a 40–40 stalemate.

In total, eight countries secured medals over the seven-day competition, with five—India, AIN, Italy, Croatia, and Czechia—achieving gold.
