India A Triumphs Over Australia A in Women's One-Day Series Opener

Brisbane, Aug 13 (PTI): India A secured a close three-wicket victory over Australia A in the opening match of the women's one-day series, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

India's triumph was spearheaded by Yastika Bhatia's composed half-century, coupled with a disciplined bowling performance led by captain Radha Yadav. The left-arm spinner was pivotal in restricting Australia A to a total of 214 by claiming three wickets for 45 runs.

Chasing the target, India A pursued confidently, reaching their mark in 42 overs. Bhatia set a solid foundation with an innings of 59 runs off 70 balls, finding the boundary seven times. Her efforts were bolstered by a brisk opening partnership of 77 runs with Shafali Verma, who scored 36 from 31 balls.

Despite a decent start, Australia A fought back, led by off-spinner Ella Hayward who took two wickets for 46 runs, putting pressure on India A at 166 for five. Nonetheless, Raghvi Bist provided stability with an unbeaten 25 off 34 balls, ensuring India’s march to victory despite late setbacks.

Earlier in the day, Australia A's innings found stability through Anika Learyod's resilient 92 not out and Rachael Trenaman's 51. Their partnership of 63 runs salvaged the hosts from a precarious 50 for three position. However, India A’s bowlers, particularly Radha Yadav and Minnu Mani, triggered a collapse that saw Australia slump to 165 for eight.

Learyod’s lone stand carried Australia A over the 200 mark, but the lack of support from the middle and lower order meant they were bowled out for 214 in 47.5 overs.

In summary: Australia A posted 214 all out in 47.5 overs (Learyod 92 not out, Trenaman 51; Yadav 3/45, Mani 2/38). India A responded with 215/7 in 42 overs (Bhatia 59, Verma 36, Gujjar 31, Bist 25 not out; Hayward 2/46, Hamilton 2/36), winning by three wickets.
