Iga Swiatek Advances to Third Round at National Bank Open

Montreal, Jul 31 (AP): Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek showcased her dominance at the National Bank Open, advancing effortlessly to the third round with a decisive 6-3, 6-1 win over Guo Hanyu of China. Swiatek was competing for the first time since her comprehensive 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon final, capturing her sixth major title. Continuing her remarkable form, she surged to a 4-0 lead, extending her winning streak in games to 24.

“I think I played a really solid match today,” Swiatek reflected. “Playing the first match on hard court after a pretty long break from the surface is always tricky, so I'm happy that I just focused on myself, adjusted to the conditions, and played well.”

The Polish star, seeded second, will face Eva Lys of Germany in the next round, following Lys's 6-3, 6-4 victory over Russia's Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a night match.

In other results, Jessica Pegula, the two-time defending champion from the United States, also secured her place in the next round by defeating Greece's Marie Sakkari 7-5, 6-4. Meanwhile, fellow American and fifth-seed Amanda Anisimova triumphed over Lulu Sun of New Zealand with scores of 6-4, 7-6 (5).

Sixth-seeded Madison Keys represented the United States with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory over Laura Siegemund of Germany. Additionally, former world number one Naomi Osaka of Japan rallied impressively to overcome Russia's Liudmila Samsonova 4-6, 7-6 (6), 6-3. (AP)
